#923: East Side Gallery
Much of the double-skinned wall that divided East from West in post-war Berlin has gone, although some stretches remain. These are kept as monuments to the history, the division, the struggle between capitalism and communism.
The longest stretch, nearly 1.5km of concrete structure along the bank of the Spree, is now devoted to art and community. The longest open air gallery in the world is split into 101 separate pieces of art, backed by the river and along which tourists wander almost continuously.
Over the coming days, through CKPonderings I’ll share some of these extraordinary pieces of street art.
